St Albans Museum and Gallery

I attended a preview to the opening of the new St Albans Museum and Gallery last week and recommend this museum as a must-see destination to anyone visiting St Albans.

The gallery is situated in the old Town Hall building at the very centre of St Albans – an imposing building during the Georgian period (1832). In the past, I’ve visited the building to take a look at the second hand pop-up book shop; had a bun and a cuppa at the cafe and popped in to view artwork from a local art society. Whenever I visited and for whatever reason, this gorgeous building always felt under-used and a little tired.

Last week was a very different experience. The building has been completely renovated and is an uplifting place to enter. It truly is a world-class centre for art & culture. With exhibitions for modern or traditional art lovers, for those interested in architecture and history or for children and families who want to spend a fascinating afternoon together, it is an engaging place to go. With a varied list of upcoming events beginning this weekend, 8th June, the grand opening weekend – I urge you to visit.
