For this painting I wanted to stretch my painting abilities by creating a piece that combines realism with comic art. Both are styles I enjoy both as an artist and viewer. Flora is the Ancient Roman goddess of Spring. She represents new beginnings and fruitfulness. I wanted my image of Flora to also represent female strength and fortitude. With this in mind I painted Flora in a traditional super-hero stance and painted her arms with strong muscular definition. The heavy fruit-laden bough of a tree is held in her hands and shaped by her strength to crown her figure. This work is still in progress but I am looking to create a trilogy of goddesses over the coming weeks. Watch this space……
