The Brief
To recreate a scene from a fairy tale or fable. The scene can have a twist on the original version.
For the excellent Pop-up Pathways into Children’s Publishing opportunity, I recreated the final scene for The Emperor’s New Clothes. As a child I remember enjoying the story but not always the illustrations – especially the final scene when the Emperor displays his new look to a waiting crowd. Looking back, I understand why an illustrator might find this scene difficult to depict – a naked man in a crowd with children, is not a good look! I created several ‘twists’ in this image and I hope you enjoy them all.
